A QR code on a grocery product ended up solving a quality problem inside our factory.
For some time, I had been hearing the same concern from our quality team. Inspections were getting interrupted, reports were not easy to trace, and customers were repeatedly calling for updates. The work itself was not the issue. The problem was the way information moved and the time it was consuming.
One morning, our quality manager walked in with a simple observation. The previous evening, while shopping at a mall, he had noticed QR codes on product packaging. You scan it, and the information appears instantly.
He asked a direct question.
Why can’t every tool we manufacture carry a QR code linked to its reports?
There was no reason to overthink it. We sat together, understood what was required, and decided to build it immediately.
Within a few hours, the first version was ready. Every tool was linked to a QR code, and every report was connected to it. A customer could scan and access information without calling anyone. The team could continue inspections without interruption.
The impact was immediate. Calls reduced. Follow-ups reduced. The quality team could finally focus on inspections instead of responding to the same queries again and again.
What stayed with me was not the speed of execution, but where the idea came from.
It did not come from within the factory. It came from noticing something simple and applying it where it actually mattered.
